"I say, old bean! Absolute madhouse, don't you think? People running hither and thither, no organisation, no plan of attack!"
—Henry Gorse-Jones.

Henry Gorse-Jones is a wealthy, elderly man from Haltwhistle, in Northumberland, England. He is married to Ribeena Gorse-Jones, a relationship marked by constant nagging.

Mr. Gorse-Jones served in the British Army during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, something which left him with a patriotic zeal later in his life.[1]

In 1912, the Gorse-Joneses boarded the RMS Titanic, and were assigned cabin A-19. They meet Frank Carlson when he stumbles into them at the Grand Staircase. Over the course of the evening, the Gorse-Jones's conversations reveal several hints about the location characters and objects. Additionally, the initial encounter with them is required to talk to the photographer Eric Burns, who provides a method of revealing to Penny Pringle that there is a spy racket on board if Vlad Demonic steals the Rubaiyat.

During the sinking, the couple is shocked at the hubbub and lapse of social order. Mr. Gorse-Jones is initially sure the Titanic is perfectly safe and expresses a wish to retire to the Smoking Room. The couple is offered a seat in one of the first few lifeboats, and they ask Carlson to join them. If Carlson accepts, he will leave the ship immediately and without the assistance of the Boat Pass. If he declines, the Gorse-Jones's will get in the lifeboat without him and he must either leave via Pass or go down with the ship. If Carlson waits too long, the Gorse-Jones's will leave without him.

Notes and references

  1. A brief background description of the Gorse-Joneses on the now defunct Cyberflix website mentioned that "Mr. Gorse-Jones served his country in India and continues to keep a keen lookout for threats to Great Britain and King George V."
